Unsafe Construction, Misrepresentation & Zero Accountability — Buyers Beware Hi-land Properties — which also operates as HomeVesters and “We Buy Ugly Houses” throughout Palm Beach County and South Florida — is responsible for multiple renovations under these names. Based on our experience, their work is not just low quality — it is unsafe. Once they close, they walk away from all responsibility. The owners are General Contractor Donald Cameron, Realtor Alex Seehaver, and Kathryn Lazarus. Here is what actually happened in our so-called “newly renovated” home: They advertised a brand new AC system, yet multiple licensed contractors confirmed they had used refurbished parts and passed it off as new. We had to replace ductwork, valves, and electrical wiring because the system leaked and the valves were so deteriorated that water couldn’t be isolated to the AC — the water had to be shut off to all the townhomes. We also had to repair plumbing, drywall, and flooring due to the water damage caused by their misrepresentation. They claimed the home had been termite-treated, but there was an active infestation throughout every bedroom, bathroom, and wall. Our family spent three months sleeping on couches and in hotels because termites were actively crawling through toilet paper, personal items, and toothbrushes. A licensed pest control company informed us that Hi-land refused full treatment because doing so would force disclosure of how severe the infestation really was. They presented false documentation to make the home appear termite-free. Sheetrock and drywall were installed below code. Walls disintegrated when we tried to hang normal household items. We paid over $8,000 to remove and reinstall sheetrock just to meet minimum code requirements in this so-called “fully renovated” home. The primary closet collapsed because shelving was never anchored properly, ripping through the already faulty sheetrock — another round of repairs we had to fund. Total out-of-pocket repairs so far: OVER $20,000 All due to defects and deceit in what was marketed as a move-in-ready renovation. Zero Accountability Hi-land Properties was notified and given the opportunity to correct these issues. They refused to take responsibility, offered no resolution, and left us to carry the financial and emotional burden caused entirely by their shortcuts and misrepresentation. This company aggressively markets under Hi-land Properties, HomeVesters, and We Buy Ugly Houses, but the pattern is the same: cosmetic flips covering hidden defects, misused permits, refurbished systems sold as new, and total silence once they are paid. If you are considering buying one of their homes: ✅ Do NOT trust their claims — hire your own independent inspectors. ✅ Assume “new” does NOT mean new. ✅ Document everything and be prepared to fight for basic safety and code compliance. Undisclosed Relationships & Ethical Concerns The listing agent was Dustin Mercurio, who never disclosed that his BIC (Broker-in-Charge) was Alex Seehaver, one of the owners of Hi-land Properties. The closing attorney Matt Kramer of Binkley Morgan also failed to disclose his personal and professional relationship with Hi-land Properties and either missed or intentionally omitted open county violations tied to the property. He should never have represented both buyer and seller with that level of entanglement. We are sharing this so future buyers do not go through what we did. Behind the fresh paint and polished marketing is a company that operates with negligence, deception, and fraudulent practices. We have begun legal proceedings, but our bigger goal is to protect other families from being misled. Do NOT trust this company or any of its affiliate names.
